Terms and Conditions

  • Entry into the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) IUFRO2014 Blog Competition is subject to acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  • All entries must be received by Tuesday, 30th September (23:59pm +12 GMT). Any entries received after this closing date will not be accepted. IUFRO reserves the right to change the closing date and cancel the competition without notification.
  • Blog entries should be sent by email to blog@iufro.orgwith the following subject: “IUFRO2014 Blog Competition”
  • Blogs can be submitted in English, Spanish and French language. Blogs not submitted in one of these three languages will not be accepted.
  • Blogs should be the sole original work of the author and must not have been previously published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other blog competition. Any evidence of plagiarism will result in the author being disqualified from the competition.
  • It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any works they submit does not infringe on the copyright of any third party. The entrant warrants that they own the copyright for their writing and photo and for the usage rights required by the competition, that their entry does not infringe on the privacy rights, copyright or any other rights of any person, and that the entrant will indemnify, hold and save harmless and defend at his/her own expense, IUFRO, its officials and persons performing services for IUFRO, against any claims, suits, liability, and demands made by any third parties in respect of such infringement or other hazards that may be suffered by the entrant as a result of his/her participation at the IUFRO2014 Blog Competition.
  • Copyright of an article or photo submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants. However, in consideration of their willful participation in the competition, each entrant grants a worldwide royalty free perpetual license to IUFRO to feature any or all of the submitted entry in any and all media for publicity and marketing purposes.
  • Articles should have a maximum word count of 750 with a margin of 250 words. Entries that exceed the established maximum word count will be returned to the author for resubmission or disqualified.
  • Entries submitted on behalf of another person will not be accepted.
  • IUFRO is not obligated to publish any blog posting.
  • IUFRO reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value for any or all consolatory prizes.

 

The Winner

  • The winner of the IUFRO2014 Blog Competition will be the one with the highest ranking based off our ranking system. The winner will receive cash prize in the sum of USD 500.
  • Two additional finalists will be selected according to the article they submitted based on a popularity ranking with the most page views, comments and highest votes. These persons will receive a copy of “Forests and Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Development”.
  • Winning the blogging competition does not constitute any form of employment by IUFRO to the winner.
  • IUFRO reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, this competition with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its control.
  • IUFRO reserves the right at any time to change these Terms and Conditions.
  • These Terms and Conditions shall be subject to and interpreted in accordance with the relevant guidelines governing participants during IUFRO events.
  • The entrant’s participation in the above cited IUFRO2014 Blog Competition will constitute his/her understanding of and concurrence to the above stipulations.
